A Kano state high court on Thursday, November 21, nullified the appointment and creation of four additional emirates by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje

Delivering the verdict, Justice Usman Na’abba, the presiding judge, declared that the creation of the four emirates did not follow due process.

Na’abba said the state house of assembly violated the provision of section 101 of the 1999 constitution which allows the assembly to make laws.

He said the challenges of the Kano emirate are “too weighty” and that the new ones will bring development closer to citizens.

The judge, however, declared the creation null and void.

Earlier, The Herald reported that  Ganduje presented  Staff of Office to the four newly appointed first class emirs in Kano on Monday.

Aminu Ado Bayero, one of the sons of the late Ado Bayero, who is the newly appointed Emir of Bichi Emirate Council was the first to become an official emir.

Other new emirs who also received their staff of office include Emir of Karaye Emirate Council, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II, Emir of Rano, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila and the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir.

Ganduje congratulated the new emirs, tasking them to always abide by what the Staff of Office symbolically represents.

He explained that the Staff of Office represents dedication and commitment to serve their subjects in the areas of security, health care delivery system, as well as education and environment, among others.
