Breaking: INEC declares Yahaya Bello winner of Kogi governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Yahaya Bello as the winner of the governorship election in Kogi State on Saturday.

The INEC’s Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Professor Ibrahim Umar, made the announcement on Tuesday, November  18.

Bello polled a massive 406,222 votes to defeat his contestant, Musa Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 189,704 votes to emerge second.

Umar, said Bello had been declared winner, having scored the highest number of votes during the poll conducted on Saturday, adding  the total number of cancelled is 149,576 and that the margin of lead is 216,518.

Earlier, The Herald reported that

The Independent National Electoral Commission started the official announcement of results of the just-concluded governorship election in Kogi state.

Governor Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently leading after declaration of results in 15 local governments in the election

So far the APC has majority votes in Ogorimagongo, Ijumu, Adavi, Okene, Kabba Bunu, Koton Karfe, Okehi, Mopamoro, Ajaokuta and Olamaboro local government areas.

On the other hand PDP has won majority votes in Omala, Igalamela/Odolu, Yagba East, Yagba West and Idah local government areas. These represent 15 local governments out of 21 have been collated. Collation would resume by 3.30 pm.
