The 14-year-old Muslim boy who was arrested for taking a homemade clock to school has been invited to the White House by US President Barack Obama.
It will be recalled that Ahmed Mohamed was on Monday arrested and suspended from school for taking to school a homemade clock that school authorities and local police said looked like a “bomb.”
He was led away in handcuffs in Irvine MacArthur High School in Texas, in a move his dad Mohamed ElHassan Mohamed described as racial profiling.
Obama in a tweet on Wednesday said “Cool clock, Ahmed. Want to bring it to the White House?”
Furthermore, the president said “We should inspire more kids like you to like science. It’s what makes America great.”
Ahmed Mohamed’s case has generated worldwide attention, leading to a Twitter campaign #IStandWithAhmed in support of the boy, which has garnered over 500,000 retweets in a spate of less than four days.
