Boy, 8, Charged For Beating 1-Year-Old Girl To Death

A boy of 8 has been charged for beating a 1-year-old girl to death because she wouldn’t stop crying, police in Alabama, USA said.

The children had both been left at home by their mothers who went to a night club to have a nice time, while leaving the children unattended to by an adult.

The girl’s mother Katerra Lewis has been charged with manslaughter for her role in her daughter’s death.

In a statement by police, “The sad part is you had an adult mother here who had the audacity to leave her 1-year-old in the custody of several other children at the house and none of those kids were over the age of 8.

“It is believed while the mother and friend were at the club; the 8 year old viciously attacked the 1 year old because the 1 year old would not stop crying.

“The 1 year old suffered from severe head trauma as well as major internal organ damage which ultimately lead to her death.”

Lewis and her friend reportedly went to a nightclub on October 10, leaving the 8-year-old boy, who is her friend’s son, with the 1-year-old.

At least five children, all 8 years or below, were left in the house.

The 8-year-old boy’s mother has not been charged.

Police said the account of a 6-year-old toddler who witnessed the incident was consistent with the injury found on the dead child’s body.

The 8-year-old boy is in the care of welfare agencies, while his case will go through the family court system, AP reported.

According to CNN, police spokesman for Birmingham, Alabama, Lt. Sean Edwards, said of Katerra Lewis: “I think her punishment is going to be something she’ll have to live with the rest of her life, her actions that night, choosing the club over taking care of her 1-year-old.”
