The pre-wedding photoshoot of a Nigerian couple, a civilian man and his military wife, has created a lot of media sensation.
In the photos, the man can be seen kneeling and looking pleadlingly to his soldier wife, who is dressed in the uniform and is holding a stick raised into the air.
The purpose of the photo is suspected to be a pre-wedding shoot.
It has stirred a lot of controversies, as some people feel the photo depicts the injustice and maltreatment of civilians by soldiers.
Others have claimed that the photoshoot was intended for fun and people were meant to see the lighter and unserious part of the photo.
However, according to Bovi, the comedian, who criticized the post, the concept of the shoot shows the normalisation of violence and abuse of power by certain members of the military against civilians.
Below is Bovi ‘s message:
“I saw this picture and a few other things on the media today, it was reported as a pre-wedding photoshoot and the characters involved are supposedly an intended couple
“Many have praised the concept as creative and it lacerates my mind, because we all have accepted abnormalities as normal.
“A soldier no matter the posting is ultimately trained for combat. They are programmed for battle. In brighter climes, you will never see a soldier in public. They are either in the barracks or the war front.
“I am suppressing the urge to compare and contrast so I will just ask some questions. Is a soldier supposed to hold a gun or stick? Is a soldier meant to punish a civilian? Is a soldier meant to assault, ignore traffic rules and seize camouflage apparel worn by civilians? Is a soldier above the law? Old help wipe away my ignorance.
“I wish the couple a happy union. Shout out to all shoulders out there defending the existence of Nigeria with their lives and fine officers who have maintained the dignity of this profession in the face of tough times.”
