In its bid to rid the state of the Boko Haram menace, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno has provided eight Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles and other accessories to hunters and local vigilantes to combat insurgents.

The Herald can report that the hunters and local vigilantes provided with the operational materials were based in Hawul Local Government Area, where insurgents looted four communities on Boxing Day.

This newspaper can further report that the patrol vehicles and other accessories were provided at the request of the hunters and the local vigilantes.

Zulum, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, donated the materials to the leaders of the vigilante groups in Azare town, in Hawul Local Government Area on Tuesday.

In his address, the governor emphasised the importance of the local populace assisting security and ancillary forces with vital information.

Zulum assured that his administration remained dedicated to restoring lasting peace and security to the state.

“Borno State government will not relent or shy away from its constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of the people and will continue to remain focused in ensuring that total peace returned to the state,” the governor said.
