2 Min Read

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, who is also Chairman of the National Assembly, has ordered a review of the security arrangement in the National Assembly complex in line with present-day realities.

This was disclosed by his Special Adviser on Security, Maj.-Gen. Saleh Maina (rtd), who laid down modalities for improving security inside the National Assembly.

Maina said that the heads of all the security agencies operating within the National Assembly complex had met to fine-tune security arrangements for better protection of lives and property within their jurisdiction.

He equally enumerated some of the measures that would be adopted in the discharge of their duties within the vast complex, which had been agreed upon at the different meetings of the heads of security.

Maina said it had become necessary for all legislators, staff and visitors to the National Assembly to wear visible identity tags.

He also said the new security arrangement forbade loitering by staff and visitors within the National Assembly complex and cars must henceforth be parked within the designated parking lots.

While urging security personnel to be polite yet firm, Maina said it had been agreed that all persons entering the National Assembly must be screened and their hand bags and other luggage subjected to further screening.

To achieve these, he said the members of the security staff of the National Assembly would be trained and re-trained, which is geared towards assisting them to perform their duties better.
