Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole have repelled a Boko Haram attack on Kirchinga, a suburb of Madagali local government area of Adamawa State.
The incidents occurred late Monday, The Herald gathered.
Witnesses said the insurgents in large numbers stormed the community on motorbikes and pick-up trucks around 4:00pm.
They then began to loot houses and shops before setting them ablaze in the community. At least five houses were reportedly set ablaze.
However, Nigerian troops intervened before the Boko Haram terrorists could complete their mission, driving them out of the community.
“They came in shooting in the air and looted shops, burned houses as people scampered for safety.
“They also shot an octogenarian before they were repelled by the army,” Daily Sun quoted a local source as saying.
“The devastation would have been worst but for the timely response by soldiers stationed in Kirchinga,” another source said.
