Abdullahi Gana, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Friday said Boko Haram had no religious “colouration’’.
Gana made the remarks when a delegation from the Celestial Church of Christ paid him a courtesy visit at the NSCDC National Headquarters, Abuja.
He said religious leaders must advocate for peace at all times, adding that Nigerians should disabuse their minds about the issue of Boko Haram.
He noted that Boko Haram, contrary to some people’s perception, was a purely terrorist organisation and had no religious colouration.
“Our collective language should be peace, peace and peace. There is no alternative to peace.
“I, therefore, call on Nigerians to disabuse their minds about the Boko Haram issue, as it has no religious colouration, but it is purely an act of terrorism to the core,’’ he said.
The commandant-general also called on all Christians to always put the country in their prayers, saying that it was the will of God that joined us together to live as one people.
The Head of the delegation, Dr Paul Jaiyeola, congratulated the commandant-general on his appointment, saying that promotion comes from the Almighty God.
Jaiyeola prayed God to continue to help him in piloting the affairs of the Corps and for the NSCDC to continue to succeed in the discharge of its constitutional mandate.
The group also appreciated the NSCDC boss for his openness to all persons irrespective of their religious or racial lineage.
