Maj.-Gen. Olusegun Adeniyi has revealed how a video showing him lamenting troops’ inability to effectively combat Boko Haram terrorists due to poor weapons and intelligence got leaked.

He was redeployed as Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maiduguri, which is prosecuting counterinsurgency operations in the North-East, to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) as a Senior Research Fellow on Tuesday, March 31, two days after the video leaked.

According to a statement by Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, the redeployment takes effect from Wednesday, April 1.

The video, which drew comments from many quarters online, was first shared by Sahara Reporters.

But in a message to his soldiers, after news of the redeployment was announced, Adeniyi said his orderly and his friend leaked the video he sent to his superiors at Army headquarters.

He urged the soldiers prosecuting the counterinsurgency operations to continue to defend their fatherland with commitment and honour as he did as their commander.

“I am posted and also a happy man. Nobody should send any long pitiable message to me.

“I have not failed, nor led irresponsibly. I have demanded your best which you gave.

“Video meant for ASA leaked by my orderly and his friend could not have been helped. For even that there is nothing to be bitter about.

“We all had fun fighting Boko Haram together. God bless you,” Sahara Reporters quoted Adeniyi as saying.
