Boko Haram insurgents had attempted to overrun the Nigerian Army’s base in Madagali Area of Adamawa state, leaving a soldier and a civilian killed.

Information from the military revealed that the Saturday attack was targeted at the base belonging to the troops of 143 Battalion, 28 Task Force Brigade of the Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole.

According to a statement by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col Ado Isa, the Boko Haram terrorists stormed the location in gun trucks but met “stiff resistance coupled with massive fire power from the troops.”

Isa added that the troops neutralised scores of the insurgents, captured one of them alive, while others fled with gunshot injuries.

Isa said, “Troops of 143 Battalion, 28 Task Force Brigade, deployed in Madagali, dealt a blow to the Boko Haram terrorists following an attempted attack by the terrorists to infiltrate the camp. The terrorists, who stormed the location in gun trucks, met their Waterloo through stiff resistance coupled with massive fire power from the troops and inflicted serious casualties on the terrorists and their equipment.

“During the encounter, the resilient troops neutralised many insurgents. Sadly, one soldier and a civilian paid the supreme sacrifice, while five others sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.

“The acting General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, Brig.-Gen Abdulmalik Biu, has commiserated with the families of the fallen heroes with firm assurance that their sacrifices will not be in vain.”
