Hundreds of People streamed into Maiduguri metropolis from nearby communities on Saturday evening when Boko haram attacked and burned houses and properties, killing one person in the process.

The attacks occurred around Bale Shuwa-Judumri axis at Jiddari Polo in Jere Local Government Area on Saturday evening.
Eyewitness reports say, the insurgents had invaded the surrounding communities in an attempt to force an entry into Maiduguri itself, they were however repelled by troops of the Nigerian Army and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
Confirming the attacks on Channels Television, the Zonal coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency North East (NEMA), Bashir Idris said 65 houses were burnt while 200 cows, 300 flocks of sheep and goats were carted away.
He said further that the residents who were injured in the attack were being provided with first aid and humanitarian needs assessment was being conducted to enable the mobilization of immediate relief assistance.
The attack follows renewed violence by members of the sect despite several efforts by security agencies to curb the menace.
In April, the armed insurgents stormed Jiddari polo, killing a civilian JTF member while two female suicide bombers were killed as Nigerian army troops repelled the invasion.
Also over the weekend, two Boko haram commanders were captured by men of the Nigeria Army after a successful rout of the sect from several communities in Borno state.
