Boko Haram ambushes Borno gov’s convoy, 15 injured

Members of terror group, Boko Haram on Wednesday launched an ambush attack on the convoy of Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, leaving 15 persons injured.

The incident occurred on the Baga highway as Zulum was heading to Monguno, one of two local government areas he planned to personally supervise the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable persons ahead of the Eid-el Kabir festivities.

The axis is said to witness heightened activities of the terror group as the five aid workers executed this month were abducted on the same highway in June. A Boko Haram splinter group, the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) is believed to have a stronghold in the area.

The Herald gathered that When the terrorists launched the ambush attack, the security detail in the convey were able to repel it.

However, 15 persons reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries during the attack.

A source said that the Borno governor was fortunate to escape the attack unhurt, noting that it was the third time that his convoy was coming under ambush attack.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Isa Gusau and Borno State Commissioner for Information, Babakura Abba-Jatto have yet to comment on the attack.
