Boko Haram: ACF Urges Buhari to take Mailaifa’s Allegations Seriously

3 Min Read

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has advised President Buhari to take the Boko Haram allegations by former CBN deputy Governor, Dr. Obadiah Mailaifa seriously and not sweep it under the carpet.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of the socio-cultural group, Emmanuel Yawe, the allegation that a sitting Northern Governor is the leader of Boko Haram is weighty and should not be swept aside.

Mailaifa revelations have generated reactions from different quarters including the Federal Government which slammed a N5 million fine on the radio station where the interview was conducted.

He said Boko Haram is about to start phase two of its master plan by invading towns in the South West and killing prominent Nigerians after it has finished its operations in the rural areas in Northern Nigeria. Mailaifa also said a sitting Northern Governor is the grand commander of Boko Haram in the country.

According to the ACF which praised the fact that the former CBN Chief was invited by the Department of State Security (DSS), the allegations are weighty and should be taken with all seriousness.

Speaking during an interview with a major National Newspaper, the ACF spokesperson said;

“He owes it to the country to shed more light on these allegations. We cannot afford to sweep such allegations under the carpet.

“Boko Haram has killed many people, destroyed the lives of many Nigerians, foreigners and Nigeria’s image in the comity of nations. The allegation that a governor who swore by the constitution and the holy book to defend the lives and property of the citizenry is behind such a satanic group is repugnant and must be properly screened.

“Additionally, we fought a costly civil war in terms of human lives and materials between 1967 and 1970. If there is any information that a group is planning a civil war, we should do all we can to verify such information and abort the plan. We cannot afford a second civil war.”

The ACF observed that Mailaifa stuck to his guns and did not retract his allegations, which puts the ball in the court of the Federal Government. The group also urged the former CBN Chief to provide the name of the Governor he accused of being a Boko Haram leader.

“For instance, he should disclose the name of the northern governor and the extent of involvement of government as he claimed,” he said.
