A senior official of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has given an update on the treatment of popular crossdresser, Idris Okuneye aka Bobrisky, in prison.
On Friday, April 12, Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced the social media influencer to six-month imprisonment with no option of fine for naira abuse.
It was learnt that Bobrisky is currently serving his sentence at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, where he is sharing the same cell with male inmates.
The Punch quoted an unnamed senior NCoS official as saying that the socialite is being treated the same as other male inmates.
The official said that upon arriving at the correctional facility, Bobrisky was given a body examination like other inmates which showed no realignment of gender or genital organ.
“Bobrisky made a public declaration that he was a male and court proceedings are public records. Every inmate brought into a facility during admission is examined. He was equally examined and no realignment of gender or genital organ was discovered. The male biological features were the same.
“After that, a cell was allocated to him, and he had a certain number of inmates with him. A bed space was also allotted to him. It is just like a boarding house where your housemaster will issue you your personal belongings,” the source said.
The source added that the new inmate has been following all rules and regulations of the correctional facility.
“When it is time for class, he attends. When it is time for food, he will go and get his portion. The same goes with prep and light out. He observes all these without preference. He has been going about his business just like other inmates since he was brought in here,” the NCoS official said.
However, the source said Bobrisky is not getting any five-star treatment and is not being protected from anybody, following insinuations that he was being protected against abuse.
