Students of the University of Lagos went on rampage on Wednesday, protesting the death of Miss Oluchi Anekwe, a 300level Accounting student of the school who was electrocuted the day before.
The students, many of whom were in a pensive mood, blamed the university authorities for complicity in the death of Miss Anekwe, who they claim was a First Class material.
However, in defence of the university authorities, a ranking official of the school who did not want to be named because he was not authorised to speak to the press, heaped the blame for the death of the student on the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), the distribution company responsible for supplying the school with electricity.
According to the official who spoke with The Herald, “There is a rush to blame the school management over the incident that led to the death of the student. However the high tension pole and wire belong to the Eko Distribution Company.
“However we are all very pained over the loss of this brilliant student.”
Calls placed to the EKEDC for their reaction to this accusation went unanswered as at press time.
