Black Panther 2: Boseman’s Demise Leaves Marvel No Choice

2 Min Read

Fans are still mourning the heartbreaking passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman. The 43-year old MCU actor is dearly cherished by fans for his memorable roles on the silver screen. Even Marvel chief creative officer Kevin Feige is taken aback by the sudden passing since few knew of Chadwick’s cancer battle.

Only a number of non-family members knew that Boseman was living with cancer. Those who had a knowledge of his ailment include producing partner Logan Coles, longtime agent Michael Greene, trainer Addison Henderson and “42” director Brian Helgeland.

However, they all had varying degrees of knowledge about the intensity of the actor’s situation. No one involved with Black Panther was in the know, says a Hollywood Reporter source. It was Boseman’s wish to keep his cancer battle quiet from the rest of the world.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is planning a sequel to the Black Panther movie, but now the future of the project is in question. The sequel’s filming schedule would start March 2021.

It’s unlikely they had a backup plan since few knew of Boseman’s cancer. Of course, Disney sources say the company is still processing its grief and that its focus at this stage is to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman.

So any notion on the making of a Black Panther sequel is on the back burner — for now.

The movie studio will have to however make a decision for the future of the MCU. One option is to recast his character. However, the popular fan request right now is to have actress Letitia Wright succeed as Shuri being the new Black Panther. This would align with her character’s prior history in Marvel Comics.
