Black Lives Matter: An Open Letter From Africa

8 Min Read

In the late 1950’s, crude oil was discovered in modern day Bayelsa state, where the immediate past President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan hails from.

After 40 years and revenues exceeding $1 trillion from oil and gas, Nigeria remains a third world country, with high levels of extreme poverty, starvation, child mortality and strife.

In Nigeria, police officers routinely carry out human rights violations, including murder against other Nigerians (black lives). The cause of some of this violence is rooted in poverty, ignorance, anger and tribal differences.

The Black Lives Matter movement whilst laudable is doomed to fail, if the organizers of these protests do not learn from the mistakes of history. Capitalism was the first destroyer of black lives, and the onset of slavery was the beginning. Used to be a few hundred slaves could be sent to southern farms in the USA by an ancient king because a white slave trader showed him a new fancy, like a mirror. It’s akin to killing a fellow brother because of a pair of Jordan sneakers or the latest iPhone. So do we still know any better and how is black lives matter helping to remedy our malaise?

In Africa, this is often law enforcement . Here a soldier from the Central African Republic aids a mob in killing a suspected criminal.

Here are a few scenes of Jungle justice being carried out in Nigeria. I bet these suspected criminals wish they had a developed judicial system like Americans and could be handed off to the police to be charged and stand trial. No such luck.

image25-1lautech1White people are not the problem, and we must learn to first look within for fault. It is so shameful that protesters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, yesterday night took to beating up innocent white people, whose only crime was the color of their skin, simply because a police officer shot down an armed black criminal. The cause of crime in the black community is understandable but not acceptable, and until we learn to teach young black people that we can escape from poverty by educating ourselves, then the cycle of poverty and police violence will continue.

There are many Africans who moved to America less than a generation ago, and are even ahead of Caucasians and Asians in academics and earning power. We never hear of these Africans getting pulled over by police or being victims of police brutality, because they are busy at work or at school, instead of loitering in the hood.

Nazi Germany maltreated millions of Jewish people, sending them to death camps and destroyed their social fabric. Did the Jews spend every last second complaining? No they protested by gaining academic, political and thus social power and are some of the wealthiest, most successful people in any parts of the world.

Black people need to stop complaining about the past and start building a future. There is more to life than the latest rap album, dance tune, world star fight video or twerk compilation and we must begin to strive to set and attain loftier goals.

For Black Lives to matter, we must stop seeing our women as sex objects and baby making factories, instead we must uplift our black women, marry them and strive to be faithful to them, instead of knocking her up and tying her down, whilst simultaneously being resentful of having to pay child support.

For Black Lives to matter, as a community, black men must stop selling dangerous and deadly drugs to our community members and insiders, looking for a quick buck to display to the world that you are balling, and can afford stuff. Stuff you will leave on Earth when you die. Instead strive to leave a legacy as a man who helped build the black community. By educating yourself, staying away from crime, obeying the law (because even in Africa you have to obey the law or risk death), working a legitimate job for a living.

South Africa has a law called the Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) law which is similar to legislation that exists in America, and has made tens of thousands of black South Africans wealthy. Black men need to study to show themselves approved to be able to grow in a capitalistic society that exists within a framework of law and order.

Black Americans are incapable of winning a race war within America. It will never happen and will only lead to total chaos and anarchy and more problems for your children. Is that the goal? If it is not, then we must strongly condemn criminal elements within the black community who want to use BLM to seek retribution for black criminals. For black lives to matter, this must be achieved.

Black Lives do matter. But from my personal experience, the greatest threat to black people are other blacks. More blacks kill each other than all other races and racists combines. In Nigeria, look at Boko Haram. Look at the leaders who took $1 trillion and didn’t even provide basic infrastructure like electricity but instead spend the money on luxuries, local and foreign women and their own families.

In South Chicago, South Central Los Angeles, Detroit and more, look at the number of blacks killing other blacks for stupid stuff, like trying to prove who has more street cred, whose crew is really the realest etc.

The world can and will never take us seriously until we fix our internal problems first. And when those problems are fixed, we will realize we will no longer need to demand respect, because it will become a birthright.

You cannot force, bully or shout people into respecting you. Sure you may be able to cause a scene on CNN for a few days, but after that its back to business, and should anyone try and play the race war card, all I can wish you is good luck because you are going to need plenty of it.
