Bishop Pleads with Trump to Show Mercy to LGBTQ, Migrants

The Episcopal bishop of Washington, Right Rev. Mariann Budde, has appealed to President Donald Trump to show mercy to LGBTQ individuals and migrants during his inaugural prayer sermon at the Washington National Cathedral.

Bishop Budde’s plea came after Trump signed an executive order directing the federal government to recognize only two sexes – male and female. She emphasized that LGBTQ children from all political backgrounds fear for their lives, and that migrants, despite their documentation status, contribute significantly to the country.

“Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were once strangers in this land,” Bishop Budde said.
