Big Brother Naija star Segun Olusemo, known as Sheggz, has ignited a debate on financial responsibility in relationships with his recent comments on a podcast.
During an appearance on the “Bahd And Boujee” podcast, Sheggz expressed his belief that men should shoulder the majority of financial burdens in a relationship. He argued that a woman contributing equally is “disrespectful” to the man.
Sheggz, who is currently dating fellow Big Brother Naija star Bella, used his own relationship as an example. He claims his girlfriend contributes roughly 20% to their shared expenses, while he handles the remaining 80%.
“I don’t want my babe paying my bills or paying her own bills because it’s going to be disrespectful,” he stated.
Sheggz went on to clarify that he appreciates his partner’s work ethic and success, but maintains a clear financial separation. He believes his money is “our money” while her money remains separate.
“Honestly, if she gives me peace in my home, I’m okay with that,” he said. “No 50/50 in my home. My house is 80/20.”
Sheggz acknowledges that a 100% contribution from him would be unfair, but still maintains a significant financial imbalance. He justifies this by claiming men are “wired to provide.”
