Biafra: Soludo Not Opposed to Nnamdi Kanu’s Freedom – Anambra Govt

2 Min Read

The Anambra State Government has refuted allegations suggesting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is against the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In a press statement issued in Awka by the state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the government dismissed these claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“It has become imperative to address the misinformation circulating in the media space regarding Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s alleged reluctance to support the release of Nnamdi Kanu,” Mefor stated.

He attributed the rumors to opposition politicians attempting to discredit Governor Soludo’s administration, adding that the governor has consistently demonstrated his commitment to Kanu’s release as a means of restoring peace in the South East.

The commissioner highlighted Soludo’s visit to Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility, where he offered to secure Kanu’s release on administrative bail and assured the authorities of Kanu’s availability whenever required.

“Contrary to the false claims, Governor Soludo has been actively working towards Nnamdi Kanu’s release, as he hopes it will help restore peace and stability in the South East,” Mefor emphasized.

The statement also expressed concern over the criminal activities that have overshadowed the Biafra agitation. Mefor noted that individuals have turned the movement into a “lucrative enterprise,” engaging in kidnapping, robbery, ritual killings, and other heinous crimes.

“This development has not only undermined the legitimacy of the Biafra agitation but also posed a significant threat to the security and stability of the South East region,” he said.

The hijacking of the movement, Mefor added, has led to a surge in violent crimes that have claimed lives, created widespread fear, and hindered economic development in the region.

Mefor urged the public to look beyond propaganda and support the government’s efforts to address insecurity in the state. “By working together, we can overcome our region’s challenges and build a safer, more prosperous future for all,” he said.
