Five members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) were allegedly killed by soldiers yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra State while celebrating the release of their leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.
An eyewitness reportedly said that trouble started when the IPOB members were asked to stop their march toward the Onitsha Bridge, that was when soldiers started shooting sporadically to scare the crowd.
The coordinator of Campaign for Democracy in the south-east told The Cable that the IPOB members were unarmed and they and wanted to converge at the Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu Gate-way when they were asked to turn back but they refused.
State police command, Philip Ezekiel claimed that the IPOB members attacked the soldiers first when contacted.
After three months incarceration by the Department of State Services (DSS), Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja released Kanu.
