The Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, has apologised for a comment he made in the wake of herdsmen attacks that left scores dead in Benue State.
Lalong had told journalists that he warned his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom against implementing the anti-opening grazing bill, which has been blamed for the attacks, into law.
But he said on Saturday that he would retract his statement following the ruckus it has generated on ‘social media’.
He said, “I must say that I humbly apologise for my comments.”
Lalong said the comment generated a lot of unexpected “social media write-ups”.
“I apologise for that because neither the argument for nor against helps the matter because it involves lives,” he added.
Ortom, while addressing the Senate Committee on Security, berated Lalong for the controversial comment.
Ortom said Lalong had no right to warn him or tell him how to run his state because he was not his staff.
