Benue Killings: Governor Ortom is a ‘Drowning Man’ – Police

2 Min Read

Spokesman of the Nigerian Police Force, Jimoh Moshood, has blasted the sitting Executive Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, calling him a “drowning man” that is not to be engaged on issues.

Jimoh Moshood made the shocking statement on live national television, while debating the Chief Press Secretary of Benue, Mr Terver Akase.

The issue arose as the Benue State Government called for the sack of the Inspector General, Ibrahim Idris due to his controversial statements after the recent Benue massacre which saw over 70 indigenes dead.

Idris was ordered to relocate to Benue by the President, Muhammd Buhari, but according to Ortom, IGP Idris did not relocate to the state.

According to Channels television, Mr Jimoh Moshood called Governor Samuel Ortom a “drowning man.”

“And that is why we felt you don’t join issues with a drowning man,” he said in an apparent reference to the governor calling for the immediate resignation or sack of the IGP.

He added, “It is a great disservice to the Inspector General of Police and the entire Nigeria Police Force for the governor to call for his resignation, the governor should resign first.

“What he has said, the document presented to the Senate is for action by the Senate. And nobody can make any part or complete document public until the Senate makes a decision on it and passes a resolution.”
