In a recent interview on the ‘In My Opinion’ podcast, Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda shed light on his decision to quit smoking weed, citing anxiety as the primary reason.
The musician, known for his hit song “Cash App,” revealed he stopped using weed four years ago due to anxieties he developed while under its influence. “I don’t smoke igbo [weed] anymore,” Shmurda stated. “I used to, but I started having anxieties smoking weed. I started getting scared of the future.“
Shmurda went on to address the common perception that weed enhances creativity, stating, “it wasn’t helping the creativity in my case.” He explained that during his weed-smoking days, he experienced anxiety that negatively impacted his creative process. “Everything I was doing when I was smoking weed, I was having anxieties,” he shared. “At a point, it was affecting me in the studio. I would just be lost in the middle. It wasn’t working anymore. I just had to stop. That was earlier in my career. It wasn’t helping.“
While Shmurda has abstained from weed for several years, he admitted to still smoking cigarettes. However, he emphasized the positive impact of his decision to quit weed, highlighting its hindrance to his creative flow and mental well-being.
