Reality TV star Bella Okagbue recently found herself embroiled in controversy after making comments on Twitter that seemed to accuse Nigerians of being judgmental toward individuals who have children outside of wedlock. Her remarks were in response to the engagement news of American reality TV star Molly Mae, who already has a child with her partner, Tommy Fury.
Bella’s tweet read: “Wait, molly-mae just got engaged? Why did I think they have been married all this while? So they live together and even have a baby🤪. She needs to thank God she’s not Nigerian because… lol,” which sparked a backlash from many users who perceived her comment as a stereotype against Nigerians.
Critics argued that Bella should not pass judgment on others, especially considering her own sister, Sandra Okagbue, who has two children with singer Flavour without being married to him, has not faced the level of criticism Bella suggested others would receive in a similar situation.
