A new study has revealed that unhappiness is in no way linked with long life although poor health can catalyze unhappiness which might lead to death but unhappiness itself is not the cause of death.
Lead author Dr. Bette Liu, now at the University of New South Wales, Australia, explained that “Illness makes you unhappy, but unhappiness itself doesn’t make you ill. We found no direct effect of unhappiness or stress on mortality.”
The researchers found that unhappiness was found to be associated with deprivation, smoking, lack of exercise and not living with a partner.
The study analyzed 700,000 women, average age 59 were followed over 10 years, during which 30,000 died.
