Her name is Stormy Keffeler, and she was Miss Washington, USA, for some time before she resigned days ago over allegation that she failed to inform pageant organisers that she spent time in jail after being arrested for drunk driving.
She initially refused to surrender her crown, but said she decided to do so after meeting the pageant’s producer and her own family.
In an interview with Good Morning America, the 23-year-old Keffeler said:
“I told people ‘you can take the title off my cold dead body.’ I was willing to fight till the end.”
“After meeting with the production company behind the pageant and talking with my family I realized the most selfish thing I could do would be to continue with this.”
She added: “I’m still myself. I still have the opportunity to change the world.”
Keffeler was in jail for the offence two weeks before the commencement of the pageant.
