Big Brother Naija personality Tacha has sparked conversation online after criticizing what she perceives as hypocrisy in Nigerians’ reactions to bullying incidents.
Tacha’s comments stem from a recent viral video showcasing the bullying of a student at Lead British International School in Abuja. The incident sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many calling for justice for the victim.
Taking to social media on April 23rd, 2024, Tacha weighed in on the conversation. In a pointed message, she questioned the sincerity of the online outrage. “This thing with Nigerians and selective outrage is something that I would never understand,” she wrote.
Tacha challenged social media users to reflect on their own past behavior. “All of a sudden everyone is acting brand new screaming ‘justice for…’ since yesterday and today, as if you guys were not bullies back in secondary school,” she stated. “Or as if you guys did not watch your friend bully junior students for doing absolutely nothing or seizing their food.”
Her criticism extended beyond schoolyard bullies. Tacha argued that online harassment of celebrities also constitutes bullying. “You people wake up and bully celebrities unprovoked and insult them and nobody says anything. Is that not bullying? Are you not bullies yourselves?” she argued.
Tacha concluded her message by calling out what she sees as inconsistency. “Justice for you! Justice for Tacha too that you people would insult unprovoked,” she wrote. “Even the person that they are owing over a million naira, no outrage because it’s someone that you don’t like. Hypocrites! Don’t come and be disturbing this timeline with justice for…'”
