Josephina Itabor, popularly known as Phyna and the winner of a past edition of Big Brother Naija, recently opened up about a painful chapter in her life involving her relationship with an estranged Muslim lover. Phyna recounted the challenges she faced as she tried to bridge the religious gap and the eventual heart-wrenching decision she had to make.
In an interview with media personality Hero Daniels, Phyna revealed the story of her relationship with a Muslim man and the complexities that arose due to their religious differences. Despite being a Catholic, Phyna embraced Islam to be with her lover, but unfortunately, his family vehemently rejected their union.
Phyna expressed her willingness to convert to Islam for the sake of love, but her lover’s family insisted that he should not marry her. The reality star shared that she faced threats from her ex-lover’s sisters and mother, who made it clear that they did not want her in the family.
The breaking point came when, after leaving the relationship, Phyna discovered she was pregnant with her ex-lover’s child. However, when she informed him of the pregnancy, he callously responded that it was her “business.” Faced with the rejection from her ex-lover’s family and the lack of support, Phyna made the difficult decision to undergo an abortion.
She explained, “I would have loved to keep the child, but the embarrassment was too much. Not even one person in the family wanted a Christian, and I felt I had a bright future, and I knew it was going to draw me back, so I was left to make the hardest choice ever.“
