The Bauchi State Government has announced its readiness to collaborate with the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee for the establishment of a Ministry of Livestock Development in the state.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement at the Bauchi Government House, Governor Bala Mohammed said the ministry’s creation would bolster the state’s economy by harnessing untapped resources in the livestock sector, improving food security, and creating job opportunities.

“We are committed to improving the livestock sector in Bauchi State,” Mohammed said. “This sector has the potential to boost our state’s economy and improve the lives of our citizens. To achieve these objectives, a committee will be set up to design a template for the state government on the best way to reform the livestock sector. This move is expected to boost economic development in the region.”
The governor also pledged to provide necessary resources at the state level to support the federal government’s livestock reform initiative.
In his remarks, Attahiru Jega, the co-chairman of the Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee, urged stakeholders to contribute meaningfully to the reform process.
“It is not all about designated policy but implementation,” Jega emphasized. “This is why we are here to engage critical stakeholders and create awareness about the importance of reforming the livestock sector for overall development. The livestock sector has tremendous potential to contribute to the national economy. With the right reforms, this sector can be transformed to improve the lives of Nigerians.”
