Buhari’s aide, Bashir Ahmad, slammed for mocking Peter Obi’s ‘donation’ to Anambra flood victims

5 Min Read

Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the President, Bashir Ahmad has been criticised on Twitter for mocking the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi over relief materials he allegedly donated to flood victims in his state, Anambra.

Obi has been going around the country to visit flood victims since last week.

On Thursday, October 20, he visited victims in Benue State, where he donated N5 million, followed by a visit to Bayelsa State on Saturday, October 22.

Also on Saturday, Obi was in his home state, Anambra, and visited areas affected by flood in Anambra East and West Local Government as well as flood-ravaged areas of Ogbaru and the IDP Camp in Atani.

After the visit, online reports circulated that the Labour Party candidate made a donation of some relief materials to the victims in the IDP camp.

A photo of the supposed donation also trended on social media.

Reacting in a Sunday tweet, Bashir Ahmad said, “Wow. Four bags of rice, 14 cartons of indomie noodles, around 50 set of blankets, 24 loaves of bread, a generator among other unverified stuff donated to thousands of families affected by floods in Anambra by a former governor of the state and a current presidential candidate.”

However, a support group, Peter Obi Grassroots Mobilisation, debunked reports that the items were donated by the Labour Party (LP) candidate.

The group said that the relief materials were donated by Obi’s supporters popularly called Obidients in solidarity with their preferred candidate.

However, the clarification did not stop commentators from scolding the presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, for mocking Obi.

@ogunmusi wrote, “Buhari didn’t even bother visiting those affected by the floods. He keeps acting like the average Nigerian doesn’t matter. You are doing nothing but to tweet on Twitter but you’re paid 1m+, No special benefit, No added value to the country.”

@healthertainer wrote, “That’s because he didn’t loot government funds like your favs who go around donating millions and millions of Naira. In this Nigeria, where una dey see the kain money una dey throw around?”

@oku_yungx wrote, “What has the President, Vice , Senate and APC done about the homeless people affected by flood? I really need to know.”

@justlyabel wrote, “You should be ashamed of yourself. Every donation he gave was frm his hard earned money,it was not stolen bcos he worked 4 it.Unlike u that stole and was collecting money frm d federal government while you were out of job. This is the kind of mediocrity we get from quota system.”

@vince81viny wrote, “Ghost worker criticizing legitimate hardworking Nigerians making efforts to be there for citizens that the APC wicked govt doesn’t care about ….you will still go to jail it is just a matter of time Bashir.”

@chymaker wrote, “You are @MBuhari’s aide and the President haven’t visited these places not to give them even a grain of rice. To you and your likes, everything is about politics but you won’t look past your tomfoolery and see how much that would have gone a long way to assist those in need.”

@novieverest wrote, “Even Bashir Ahmed that was unemployed before he saw government money will give more than that. That is the Nigerian problem. People having more money than the value they offer. It has to stop.”

@zigculture wrote, “For someone who cannot tell Buhari to make a statement. Bashir is not a Nigerian at heart.”
