The English Football Association has charged Chelsea striker, Diego Costa for misconduct after he was sent off from the FA Cup sixth-round game against Everton, which the Merseyside team won by 2-0.
Costa was sent off by referee Michael Oliver in the 84th minute after he picked up a second yellow card in the match played on Saturday, following an incident in which he appeared to bite Everton midfielder, Gareth Barry.
The Spaniard has since denied biting Barry, an assertion Barry himself confirmed via social media.
Stating why Costa was being charged, an FA statement read in part: “It is alleged his behaviour, after being shown a second yellow card in the game, amounted to improper conduct.”
By virtue of the red card, he is to miss two games.
He has until Thursday, March 17, to respond to the charge and state why further disciplinary action should not be taken against him.
“He has until 6pm on Thursday 17 March 2016 to respond to the charge,” the statement added.
