Barcelona Now Number 1 – Forbes Unveils World’s Most Valuable Football Teams

2 Min Read

Barcelona are the most valuable football team in the world, according to Forbes’ list of 20 most valuable football teams released Monday.

It is the first time that Barcelona would attain the top spot, beating perennial table-toppers Manchester United (11 times) and Real Madrid (five times).

The Catalan club is valued at $4.76 billion, beating bitter rivals Real Madrid’s $4.75 billion valuation.

German giants, Bayern Munich are third with a valuation of $4.215 billion.

The American business magazine said in a report that the world’s 20 most valuable football teams are worth an average of $2.28 billion each, an increase of 30% from two years ago.

This is despite a dip in revenue for the clubs following limited attendance at match venues occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Average revenue for the 20 teams was $441 million for the 2019-20 season, down 9.6% from 2017-18, while average operating income fell by 70% over the period to $23 million,” the report read in part.
