Barcelona have registered new signing Memphis Depay for the new La Liga season after second captain, Gerard Pique agreed to a “substantial pay cut”, the club said in a statement.
Also registered are Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj.
Recall that the club recently lost former captain and six-time Ballon D’Or winner, Lionel Messi due to La Liga regulations on club spending.
The same regulations rendered the club unable to register new signings for the 2021/2022 season until respite came through Pique’s concession to reduce his wages.
“Barcelona is able to register Memphis, Eric Garcia and Rey Manaj to play in the Spanish Liga de Futbol Profesional.
“This has been made possible thanks to an agreement with Gerard Pique whereby the Barca second captain’s salary has been substantially reduced.
“This means that all of the first team players will be available for selection by Ronald Koeman for this Sunday’s opening Liga fixture against Real Sociedad,” the club said in a statement on Saturday.
