An Instagram user, 24-year-old Haneefah Adam, has unknowingly sparked a religious row on social media after she uploaded pictures of a barbie-like doll dressed in hijab and home-made clothes.
With the project which she tagged ‘Hijarbie’, Adam said she is determined to change the negative perception people have about the Islamic faith and inspire Muslim children.
She said: “It’s about having a doll that looks like her, that represents her own cultural and religious background.”

While many social media users seemed to fall in love with the idea and expressed their admiration for her work, some were not so accommodating.
An admirer said…

However, some had issues with the fact that the barbie was not black since it was meant as dolls for AFRICAN Muslim children, while some just had issues with the point behind it all.
