Bandits Kidnap 15 Students In Sokoto

2 Min Read

Bandits have reportedly abducted at least 15 Tsangaya students in the Gidan Bakuso area of Gada Local Government Area in Sokoto State, The Herald reports.

This online news platform gathered that the abduction took place around 1 am on Saturday at the school premises, according to findings by our correspondent.

Confirming the incident, the proprietor of the school, Liman Abubakar, stated that 15 students were unaccounted for, but the counting process was ongoing.

Abubakar revealed that the bandits invaded the town, shot one person, and kidnapped a woman before leaving.

“They invaded the town around 1 am, shot one person and abducted a woman in the process.

“As they were leaving the town, they sighted our students rushing into their rooms and they kidnapped many of them.

“We have so far counted 15 who are missing and we are still searching for more,” he said.

Expressing concern, Abubakar mentioned that although it wasn’t the first attack on the village by bandits, it was the first time they had kidnapped students.

Mansur Ahmadu, a resident of the affected community, described the invasion as a serious situation, adding that a woman was killed during the incident.

Kabiru Dauda, a member representing Gada-East constituency at the state House of Assembly, confirmed receiving a distress call around 2 am about the invasion by bandits.

He assured that local government authorities and security agencies were addressing the situation.

The Sokoto State Police Command has deployed a team to assess the situation.

ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the spokesman for the command, stated that efforts were underway to gather accurate information.

This incident follows the recent abduction of over 280 pupils and teachers at Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in Kuriga, Kaduna State, on Thursday.
