Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted five female students of Federal University in Dutsinma (FUDMA), Katsina State.
The students were abducted when the gunmen invaded an off-campus hostel behind Mariamoh Ajiri school, close to Wednesday Market in Dutsinma early Wednesday.
The abductees are said to be from Kano and Nasarawa states, while two of them are final year students.
Head of the Public Relations Unit of the university, Habibu Umar Aminu, confirmed the abduction.
He said that the incident occurred around 2am on Wednesday, noting that efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Katsina State, ASP Sadiq Aliyu Abubakar, said that one person has been arrested on suspicion of supplying information to terrorists.
He noted that concerted efforts were on to rescue the victims, adding that some people were also arrested for their suspected involvement in the abduction.
