A Zaria, Kaduna State-based professor, Aliyu Kuregu, has been abducted and his son killed by bandits.
The incident reportedly occurred when the assailants raided the professor’s home on Sunday night.
The Senator for Kaduna Central in the Eighth Senate, Senator Shehu Sani lamented the incident in a tweet on Monday morning.
Sani described the abduction of Prof. Kuregu and the kidnap of his son as “painful” and “tragic news”.
The senator also prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
Sani wrote, “It’s painful to receive the tragic news that bandits raided the house of Professor Aliyu Kuregu ,kidnapped him and killed his son in Zaria yesternight.Inna lillahi wainna Illayhir rajiun.”

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who publishes a daily security update in the state, has yet to confirm the information.

On Sunday, Aruwan disclosed that armed bandits invaded Sharu village, Igabi LGA of the state and shot an 80-year-old woman, Hauwwa Umaru, to death.
In another incident, unknown gunmen killed one Samaila Yohanna, the Ward Head of Konti, in Chikun local government area.
“Also in Chikun local government area, bandits killed two locals, Alhaji Sani and Malam Rabiu, at Dande.
“In Giwa local government area, armed bandits barricaded the road between Fatika and Kidandan and opened fire on commuters plying the road.
“One unidentified woman was killed, and three other persons were injured in the attack.
“Governor Nasir El-Rufai noted the reports with sadness, and conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for the repose of their souls. He also prayed for speedy recovery for the injured.
“The Governor also implored security agencies to ensure diligent investigations into the disturbing incidents,” the commissioner disclosed.
