The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has placed a ban on all public gatherings in the state for 31 days, including burials, weddings, conferences, amongst other forms of gathering.
David Umahi, who announced the ban during a town hall meeting which he had with residents of the state at the International Conference Centre, disclosed that the ban was placed in an effort of the state government to contain the spread of coronavirus disease in Nigeria.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, also stated that the ban will only take effect for a period of one month in the first instance.

Umahi said,
“It is painful to take the decision but the government had to reason that it is better to let the dead bury the dead for now. But if you feel that you cannot wait, then you can take the corpse and bury just you and your family without any ceremony and invitation to anybody.”
Civil servants in the state, except those on essential services, were also directed to work from home starting from March 25, 2020.
