Former military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has emphasized that unity remains the most effective way to address the numerous challenges facing northern Nigeria.
Babangida made this assertion while hosting officials from the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI) at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State. The elder statesman described the formation of the movement as timely and commended its mission to foster unity and development in the region.
“Only through unity can the north overcome its numerous challenges, which makes the birth of the Northern Star movement at this time both commendable and timely,” Babangida stated.
He urged the group to remain committed to their mission of uniting not only the northern region but the entire country. Babangida reiterated that unity is essential for progress, especially as the north continues to grapple with issues like insecurity, poverty, and underdevelopment.
Officials of the NSYEI, led by former Sokoto State Governor Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, who serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, echoed Babangida’s sentiments. Co-chairperson Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed and Director-General Dr. Abdullahi Idris also attended the meeting.
In their remarks, the group highlighted the importance of unity among the diverse communities in the north. They argued that a unified approach would strengthen the region’s ability to address its challenges and advocate for its interests within the Nigerian federation.
The meeting ended with a call for greater collaboration among northern leaders, youth organizations, and stakeholders to foster peace, unity, and development. The NSYEI pledged to intensify efforts in promoting initiatives aimed at unifying the region and improving the lives of its people.
