Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James Omiyinka aka Baba Ijesha has been sentenced to 16 years in prison custody.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court passed the judgement in Lagos on Thursday.

Recall that the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on June 24, 2021, arraigned the Nollywood actor for sexually assaulting the 14-year-old daughter of comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, aka Princess.

The actor was arraigned on six counts bordering on child defilement that include indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault by penetration.

The DPP argued that the offences contravene Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.

The convict pleaded not guilty to all the counts.

In a two-hour judgement, Justice Taiwo held that the prosecution had successfully proven the charge of sexual assault of a minor and indecent treatment of a minor against the convict.

The judge convicted the actor of four charges bordering on indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault, and attempted sexual assault.

However, the court discharged and acquitted the convict on count one and count six, namely sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.

The judge held that the sentence is to run concurrently.
