An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a farmer, Suleiman Fatai, in prison for allegedly beating and stabbing some members of a community in Kwara.
Magistrate Mohammed Ndakene, who gave the ruling, said the accused should be kept behind the bars at Okekura Prison, Ilorin, pending conclusion of police investigations.
The accused, who hails from Osi in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara, was arraigned on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, assault, causing grievous hurt and intimidation.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Adewumi Johnson, told the court that the accused and three others, now at large, allegedly attacked some people in Osi on Feb. 13.
He said the accused and others attacked some villagers, beat them up and stabbed one of them with a knife at Osi Market Square.
Investigation is ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects that have become a threat to the Osi community, he said.
He, however, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison pending the outcome of investigations.
The offences contravened Sections 97, 114, 265, 248 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The case has been adjourned until March 15. (NAN)
