The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has wished his African Democratic Congress (ADC) counterpart, Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, a quick recovery from COVID-19.
Atiku’s message is contained in a terse statement he personally signed on Saturday.
Kachikwu announced he had contracted COVID-19 in a statement.
In his statement, the ADC flagbearer urged Nigerians not to let their guards down despite the government relaxing COVID-19 rules.
He said vigilance among the citizenry could help the nation adequately combat the resurgence of the pandemic.
“Nigerians must not let their guard down even though the Government has relaxed COVID rules.
“Our public health system can’t cope with the fallout of huge infection rates with attendant symptoms, especially at a time when our health care professionals are leaving the country in droves.
“We must increase testing and take all necessary precautions not to spread the virus.
“We must not allow political rallies to become COVID spreaders and reverse the gains made in combating the virus.
“We will survive the Corona Virus if we all remain vigilant,” Kachikwu’s statement read in part.
Reacting, Atiku said, “My heart goes out to Dumebi Kachikwu, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), over reports of his positive test to COVID-19.
“As humans and Nigerians, we stand by you now and wish you a quick recovery,” Atiku said.
