Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hailed Plateau governor, Caleb Mutfwang’s victory at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on Friday.
In a Friday judgement, a three-member panel of the tribunal led by Justice Sunday dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress and its governorship candidate, Nentawe Yiltwatda.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Muftwang winner of the March 18 election with 525,299, beating 17 other candidates including Yiltwatda who polled 481,370.
However, the APC candidate approached the tribunal to seek Muftwang’s disqualification as he was not properly nominated by the PDP.
The APC candidate also claimed over-voting in favour of Muftwang, and asked the tribunal to him (Yiltwatda) as governor.
But delivering the judgment, the tribunal upheld the governor’s election, noting that Yiltwatda and his party failed to prove their case.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Atiku congratulated the governor.
“Congratulations to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, @CalebMutfwang, on the affirmation of your victory at the Plateau State Election Tribunal.
“Your leadership and commitment to the people remain unyielding. Here’s to an impactful and prosperous tenure ahead,” Atiku tweeted.
