The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has finally obtained an American visa, after 13 years of being unable to visit the country.
TheCable reported, quoted a family source, that Atiku jetted out of Nigeria just after obtaining the visa and will spend sometime in the United Kingdom before heading to the US.
Atiku’s former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo is believed to have contributed immensely to getting the US government to issue the visa.
The Waziri of Adamawa’s political opponents have constantly used the American visa issue to taunt and discredit him, saying he was running away from the country to avoid possible arrest and prosecution.
Atiku had been unable to visit America since 2004, when his name featured prominently in a bribery and money laundering investigation of a US Congressman, William Jefferson, who was later imprisoned.
