Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has requested that Independent National Electoral Commission and security officials implicated in the April 11 polls in Taraba state be replaced before the re run elections in the state.

In a statement released by the Atiku Media Office, Atiku said “These irregularities included using armed personnel to intimidate voters.

“Elections should not be militarised. Nigeria is a democracy, not a dictatorship. Citizens should be able to go out and vote without fear of being threatened with the nozzle of a gun.

“These people should not be allowed to go back during the rerun election. No troops should be allowed nearby.”

Atiku said that electoral frauds were perpetrated in Southern Taraba, specifically in Wukari, Takum, Kurmi and Donga local councils.

Meanwhile governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance in Nasarawa State, Mr. Labaran Maku has rejected the results of the just concluded governorship election declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.

In a statement issued in Lafia, Maku said “We will fight until freedom, liberty and justice are attained for all our people regardless of ethnic, religious and social origins.”

He added that the election was characterised by reports of ballot theft and irregularities.

  • Very well said Turakin Adamawa. Those INEC and SECURITY officials implicated in the conduct of last weekend’s governorship election not only in Taraba state but also those in Imo and Abia states should be replaced in the rerun with those that will be fair to all parties involved.

Free, Fair and Credible elections is all Nigerians ask for.
