Members of NANS, Lagos chapter gathered in front of the front gate of University of Lagos in order to protest that ASUU call of its strike in order to allow students return to school.
Police presence was heavy and university security shut the front gates so as not to allow any protesters enter the university. The forced closure of the gate caused heavy traffic jam in the area.
One female University of Lagos student, Fadekemi, who resides in the EMerald Private hostels across the street spoke to our reporter.
She said, “ASUU is as much as fault. All Nigerians in every sector are suffering from decades of government neglect and corruption. There are selfish motives behind ASUU’s demands. They’re asking for increase in their salaries (allowances).
“Lecturers still make a fortune from selling students’ handouts and some randy ones will still demand to sleep with female students. So where are their morale grounds for this strike? They should hold their peace and let us resume.”
Another student, a 400 level male said, “ASUU my foot! They are unserious people. They are at home collecting salaries. Meanwhile the money I spent on my final year project has gone down the drain. They should stop acting unreasonable and do their jobs.”
