ASUU strike: Nigerians curse Buhari over daughter-in-law’s foreign university graduation

Zahra Bayero

Amid the ASUU strike that has kept students at home for seven months, Nigerians have vented their anger on President Muhammadu Buhari as it emerged that his daughter-in-law, Zahra Bayero, just graduated with first class honors in Architectural Science from a UK University.

Zahra Bayero is the wife of Buhari’s only son, Yusuf.

First Lady Aisha Buhari disclosed Zahra’s academic achievement via her social media accounts on Tuesday.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Zahra B Buhari on your graduation with First Class Honors in Architectural Science. Wishing you all the best,” the president’s wife wrote.

She also shared photos of the First Family celebrating with the new graduate.

However, many Nigerians who took to social media vented their annoyance that public universities in the country have been shut for months while the first family appears unbothered by the plight of affected students.

Taking to the comment section of First Lady Aisha Buhari’s post, presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore wrote, “This is the reason their father Muhammadu Buhari shut down Nigerian public universities for 7 months now and still counting, because his children don’t go to schools in Nigeria and as you could tell they’ve used your resources to give their children the best education money can buy. Nigerians!!! You see why you need a #Revolutionnnow?”

Amb Dion Osagie wrote, “E no go better for una. Nigerians students are on strike. Your children are graduating from abroad schools.”

Chiemeka Akwarandu wrote, “Insensitive personified, Wickedness Engraved Boldly.”

Kelechi Okoro wrote, “But the children of Mr Emeka Opeyemi Ahmed have been home for how long again because of ASUU strike.
Please rub it in our faces. We are your powder.”

Fadima Ibrahim wrote, “I’m thoroughly disappointed in you posting this, after knowing full well our students have been at home for months due to your husband’s incompetence and nonchalance.”

Frankline Madichie wrote, “Your husband has achieved everything failure can offer, name them… The name Buhari will forever be remembered as the worst thing that happened to Nigeria. After destroying Nigerian universities with his leadership incompetence, you sent your children to foreign schools and posting their graduation on social media to mock other people’s children who as a result of ASUU have spent over seven months at home and still counting without lectures, on the day the airport was shut down by the youths for the same reasons. Where is your conscience? Continue celebrating your daughter’s graduation abroad, nemesis will soon catch up with all of you.”

Patience Nnedinsọ Eze wrote, “Congratulations to her but, you should not have shared this on social media… It is insensitive to the plight of many Nigerians who are at home and whose children are currently not in school because of ASUU Strike…”

Nwachukwu Chetachukwu wrote, “As at last year, Somebody’s son in final year….This year again, he is still in final…..Next year, he will still be in final year with no hope of ASUU STRIKE coming to an end. Nigeria I hail thee.”

Dimbo Atiya wrote, “This is insensitive because there are millions of other children at home because of your husband’s incompetence. Let’s call a spade a spade.”

Another social media user, Bennie Baba wrote, “They destroy our educational system send their children abroad to school and end up coming back to be put in the place of authority to rule over us. But still some nonentities are still soliciting for them to continue ruling so as to put their children there to continue the destructive programme they had in mind for the innocent citizens.”

Babalola Ola wrote, “This people no rate us at all. That useless terrorist Buhari wife fly from Dubai to UK with taxpayers’ money. I cursed those that voted for this APC government. Peter Obi comes, light comes by 2023.”
