Association urges FG to boost capacity building through technology

2 Min Read

Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) has urged the Federal Government to take full advantage of technologies to enhance its efficiency in the public service.

The National President of the association, Mr Suleiman Oseni, made call on Thursday in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Oseni said civil service ought to join the transformation train first by digitalising the economy through its various activities.

According to him, paying more attention to effective Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure deployment and its effective utilisation is the way forward.

He further urged the present administration to intensify effort in providing an enabling environment to drive effective and efficient services to encourage citizen’s participation in governance.

“Government ought to massively invest in the ICT infrastructure, fully engage in promotion of paperless environment and improvement in the capacity of the drivers and the users of these capacities.

“Such capacity in promoting e-governance drive of government would enable staff to appreciate the efforts of applying ICT tools to improve their services.

“Officers should be encouraged to communicate their non-confidential documents, letters, minutes of meetings, request for proposals, between and among themselves through their official website and then with the public,’’ he said.

Oseni maintained e-governance ought to be encouraged until sufficient skills were acquired to position the nation to depend solely on ICT in transacting government businesses toward national development. (NAN) FGA/MST
